Eden Mill was built in 1805 by Elijah Stansbury. It was named
after Father Eden, a local Priest. In the late 1800's, Martseller
and Van Sant became the owners.
Frank Wolfe bought the mill in 1905 and added a steam powered saw mill.
The mill was destroyed by fire in 1908 and rebuilt as it is at the present.
Marshall Stokes bought the mill in 1910 and operated it for seven years.
The mill used calico sandstones for grinding. In 1917, the Fawn Grove Light and Power Company purchased the mill and converted it into an electricity generating power plant. In 1921, the mill generated electricity for Fawn Grove and New Park, Pennsylvania. In addition, it supplied electricity for Smith's Canning House, Anderson's Feed Mill and Ruff's Fawn Grove Lumber Mill. In 1927, the Eden Mill power plant was closed, and James T. Smith bought the mill. He ground feed with a hammer mill. Flour was ground with steel rollers. The Mill was rated as a 50-barrel mill, meaning it could grind 50 barrels of flour in 24 hours. The mill was used at times to provide flour, cornmeal, buckwheat, and animal feeds. The mill ran until 1964 when Harford County Department of Parks and Recreation purchased the mill and 57 acres. The mill has been very well preserved, and it still contains the milling equipment and the electric power plant. The older records of the mill have been lost.
