We are just 10 days out from our America 250 Speakers Series: Equestrian Sport in Harford with Josh Pons. Join us at the Harford History Center for a talk and book signing featuring Josh Pons, a third-generation horseman and owner of Country Life Farm, as he relates the stories behind his newest book, Letters from Country Life: Adolphe Pons, Man o’ War, and the Founding of Maryland’s Oldest Thoroughbred Farm.

This is a unique opportunity to explore Harford County’s connection to horse breeding, Maryland’s role in the sport of horse racing, and the Pons family’s legacy in Maryland’s equestrian history. There will be wine at this event. @Country Life and Merryland Farms

We are just 10 days

In honor of Women's History Month, we want to take a moment and show appreciation to the women behind the day to day operations of the Historical Society of Harford County.

Thank you for all that you do!

Last month, we awarded our longtime artifacts chairperson Dottie Vinopal the Richard Sherrill Volunteer award. This award recognizes HSHC volunteers who have shown exceptional generosity, service and commitment to the historical society.

Chris Potts, the Executive Director of the Historical Society spoke at her award celebration last week:
"A Wednesday rarely goes by without Dottie at the helm –whether a lone force, or captaining her volunteers –Diane, Joyce, Bill and Al, I have seen how Dottie never waivers in her department goals or her commitment to the workings of the Society –all the while bringing a sense of humor and playfulness to the job by offering a quip or quiz about an odd artifact that passes her desk. I for one have always been stumped when she has offered up an oddity and asked, Do you know what this is? The first time she asked me, I feared she may be serious but soon realized she was and she wasn't. It took a while to detect the gleam in her eye that reveals her smart and slightly mischievous sense of humor."

Congratulations Dottie!

Last month, we award

We spent the early part of our afternoon with Josh Pons at his family’s farm, Country Life Farm.

This history within this farm is incredible and we are so honored that Josh would invite us out to experience that rich history. He will be at the Historical Society, March 21st for his book discussion and signing.

Wine and light hors d’oeuvres will be served at the event.
