
Fran (Norman) Mathews
Started playing sports at age 8 in the Baltimore County Parks and Rec. At Parkville High, she lettered in field hockey, basketball, softball and lacrosse. At Shepherd College, she played and coached field hockey.
In 1970, Fran began her 34 year teaching career at North Harford where she taught Phys. Ed., Sports Management, Typing and English. She coached field hockey, basketball, softball, track and field, lacrosse and volleyball. In 1977, she started the lacrosse program that went 10-0.
In 1975, North Harford won the first State Field Hockey Championship. In 1982, Fran became the Athletic Director. Soon after she founded the Hawks Booster Club and became graduation coordinator.
She was chosen Athletic Director of the Year for ‘03-’04 and was named Living Treasure by the Harford County Council in 2023. Fran has a habit of saying, “I am North Harford, and it is me,” reflecting her love for the school, its students, and especially, its athletes.
